Dog Walkers Locksheath, Southampton

Calling all Dog Walkers!

The Dog Walker Southampton is looking to expand it’s services into the Locksheath area of Southampton. Locksheath is a bit out of our reach which is why we are looking for a Dog Walker Locksheath who could provide dog walking and home dog boarding services.

Becoming a professional dog walker is not as easy as it seems and certainly isn’t a simple walk in the park as many people may believe. You need to know your local area, competition and most importanly know how to care for a client’s dog and assist them with the dog walking and dog training needs.

Be assured!

For those contemplating running a professional dog walking business be aware of the serious sides to running such a business for example, certainly guarantee yourself as dog walker peace of mind by obtaining Pet Insurance (covering dog walking and home dog boarding).

Make sure you get paid!

Invoicing the dog walking clients. Drawing up and making sure you have legal terms and conditions which get signed. A word of warning to all dog owners, under law you are liable for the damage your dog can cause whereas interestingly a cat is seen as a free spirit. Probably the best bit advice is to join the DogsTrust for £25 a year (£12.50 for over 60s) and they will help provide you with 3rd party insurance, click here for more details.

Providing a peace of mind!

From a peace of mind point of view you should be able to provide a potential client with CRB’s or a Scottish Disclosure as some owners may have to leave you with keys to their property.

Are you the next Dog Walker Locksheath?

If you are already a dog walking business in the Locksheath / Fareham area looking for the right promotion online get in touch with Dog Walker Southampton.
Alternatively, you could be someone who has a massive passion for dogs but need that initial helping hand to become a professional dog walker in Locksheath.

Get Online and a Good Brand!

Our professional website designer has had a good level of success with optimising other dog walking websites in highly competitive areas including Southampton, Portsmouth and Wimbledon. He could offer you the same opportunity.

We have an established dog walking brand with business card designs, flyers etc.

A brief summary of what they provide is below:

“English leather police style training leads for dog made from Sedgewick leather bridle leather that will last for years as long as you care for it ,these leads are made from the best English leather which is used in the saddlery business that saddles, bridles, stirrup leathers and head collars are made from, not the usual rubbish that you see on the internet sites , all our supplies are bought in the UK, each piece of leather is cut to size from a large piece, which is called a bridle butt”

For full details please visit their website www.leatherdogleads.org.uk.

Dog Walker Southampton is happy to promote other pet businesses so feel free to get in touch and maybe we could work together.

Fran has decided to share some thoughts on dog food, diet is just as equally important as exercise and that applies to our canine friends as much as it does for us:

I used to buy well known makes of pet food but after reading that the most popular brands are tested on animals (and not in a good way!) I decided to look around for pet food not tested on animals. The internet was helpful and it enabled me to make an informed choice. Some suggest that the well known brands are not very nutritious or healthy, certainly since my dog has been on different pet food her tummy trouble have really settled down. I think all dogs and cats are different and its finding what is right for you and your pets. I think it is good to shop around and see what the wider market has to offer. The food I have is now delivered to my door free of charge which makes life a lot easier.

We’d like you to share your thoughts with the dog walker southampton on dog food and if you have any questions or subjects you would like us to look into please leave a question below, if you would not like your comment published, simply put the word CONFIDENTIAL at the beginning and we will not release your comment.

I’m considering about extending my services to include professional home boarding. My friends have always asked me to look after their pets. I’d even be interested to hear if people have recommendations on dog kennels in Southampton as when asked I have no experience of kennels. The same applies for any catteries. If anyone is looking for a cat / small pet feeder I know of a lovely lady either use my contact form or post a comment below and I’ll put you in touch, if you do not want your comment published just put CONFIDENTIAL somewhere and I will not publish your comment.

I’d be interested in hearing your comments!

I sometimes get asked if I have any tips for walking a dog. More so for those people who’s dog is young or progressing the dog to walk off a lead. Starting with the lead most owners opt for a standard collar and D-ring which the lead is simply attached to other owners adopt for a harness as this doesn’t choke the dog but usually this is more practical for smaller dogs from my experience.

I always feel it’s good to talk to your dog and give them plenty of praise. A good little trick for when teaching a dog to return when they have started being walked off the leash is to have a little treat for when they return to your call and being rewarded for the positive behaviour encourages your dog to repeat the behaviour. On the flip side if the dog is being over zealous and dragging you along on the walk simply hault to a stop. It’s very important they know you are in charge and this should be taught as early on as possible as for the larger dogs it can be quite overpowering for be dragged along by them.

I’m not a dog behavioral expert and for those of you who feeling you need help in that department I would recommend www.the-dog-listener.co.uk.

You know your dog better than anyone so there isn’t one right way to walk your dog my personal feeling is as long as they know who is in charge it should be enjoyable for both you and your dog and they certainly do love the praise, time you spend with them, attention and exercise.

For a few more tips visit: www.wikihow.com/Walk-a-Dog

Have fun!
